LOS ANGELES, June 11 (Xinhua) -- U.S. video game developer and digital distribution company Valve announced Monday that it will launch new software platform Steam China with its Chinese partner Perfect World.

According to an official statement issued by the two companies, the new software distribution platform will provide Chinese gamers and developers with a new way to access Steam's selection of games and entertainment while "no changes are planned for Steam's existing worldwide operations and services as a result of this announcement."

The Steam platform, run by Washington State-based Valve, is one of the largest digital distribution platforms for personal computer gaming, where players can purchase, download, discuss, upload and share games and game-related content.

It was reported that the platform created trade value of 4.3 billion U.S. dollars last year.

Even though no exact launch date was announced Monday, Robert H. Xiao, Chinese game and movie company Perfect World's chief executive officer, told Xinhua via email on Monday that more games would be introduced between the two countries through Steam China, which will "provide quality content and improve the experience for both gamers and developers."

"Perfect World and Valve will collaborate closely on Steam China, actively promoting its launch, marketing and game lineup," he said. Enditem
