ULAN BATOR, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Two men were arrested here last week while attempting to sell a dinosaur fossil, a spokesperson from the country's National Police Agency said Tuesday.

"Over the weekend, police officers arrested the two men surnamed G and M after the suspects have posted information on selling the 80-million-year-old dinosaur fossil on Facebook," Buyant Baatarkhuu, head of the press office of the National Police Agency, said at a press conference.

"The suspects are from the southern Mongolian province of Umnugovi. The case is currently under investigation," Baatarkhuu said without elaborating.

Mongolia, especially its Umnugovi province, is known for its large number of dinosaur-related findings.

Under Mongolian law, significant fossil discoveries can not be exported or sold, even if they are privately owned.
