Macedonia, BiH ease citizens' border crossing procedures

SKOPJE, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The citizens of Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will cross the border using only their identity cards following the agreement signed Monday by Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and visiting chairman of BiH Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic.

Zaev said at the joint press conference that this agreement showed the serious engagement of the two countries to develop friendly relations in the neighborhood and united region directed to European perspectives.

"This is the second concrete step to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries following the signing of agreement on mutual recognition of driving licenses," Zaev said.

Zvizdic said that this agreement marked a step to further intensify cooperation and free movement of people while he stressed there were no open issues between the two countries.

"Macedonia and BiH are the most similar countries in the region and understood each other well. They face similar political and economic problems, and what is important is that we have the same basic goal, and that is moving towards the EU," Zvizdic said at the press conference.

Both leaders also discussed the improvement of the economic cooperation, noting that there was potential for promoting economic cooperation.

Macedonia has signed such agreements with Serbia, Albania and Montenegro in a bid to facilitate the travel of citizens towards and from these neighboring countries.
